GC Septa
GC septa from Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) are used in gas chromatography (GC) applications, a group of techniques for separating and analyzing volatile compounds.
Products include both disc-shaped septa and Shimadzu plugs.
GC Septa: Injection
In GC systems, a sample is injected through a rubber septum into a heated vaporization chamber. A carrier gas transports the sample into the GC column. This long, thin tube is filled with a stationary phase material that’s used to separate different compounds in a sample mixture based on their interactions with the stationary phase as they are carried through he column by a flowing gas (mobile phase).
GC Septa: Detection
A mass spectrometer (MS) or other detector at the end of the column measures components in the compound. Mass spectrometry is an analytical tool useful for measuring the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of one or more molecules present in a sample.
Syringe Injection
In syringe injection systems, high-quality gas chromatography septa are critical. These accessories need to introduce the sample without leakage and withstand the high-temperatures of the inlet.
What is Septa Bleed?
If a septum decomposes under these conditions, a condition known as bleed can cause baseline disruption and ghost peaks in the chromatogram.
